Announcing the DC Design Talks

Jason Garber and I (Jackson) are happy to announce that we’re ready to kick off the DC Talks, a project of ours we’ve been working on for the past couple of months.  The idea is that it’s a one-day conference for folks in the area to improve their craft by learning from others in the area.  It looks like a conference, it feels like a conference, and it has schwag like a conference, but you don’t have to travel, you don’t have to shell out a lot of cash (only $35), and you don’t need to ask your boss for a week off of work (just a day).  Think of it as being halfway between Refresh DC and Future of Web Design.

The first of these is the DC Design Talks, which will take place on February 29th, leap day.  We’ve already got a great lineup of speakers, which you can check out on the site, who will be talking about everything from designing for social interaction, design process, flash, typography, to getting inspiration.  We hope to add a couple more over the coming weeks to round things out a little bit.  It’ll definitely be a great time, with a relatively small crowd (capped at around 65) and a lot of opportunity for discussion and questions.  The best part is that the whole conference costs less than a tank of gas, at only $35.

Assuming all goes as planned, we’ll be doing the same thing for developers in the spring, holding DC Dev Talks, followed by DC Strategy Talks in the summer for those who are a bit more interested in the bigger picture.  These will again be low-cost affairs following pretty much the same format.  So if you’re not a designer, don’t feel left out-- chill out for a couple of months and we’ll have something up your alley.  If you are a designer, this only comes around once a year, so definitely sign up!

We’re excited, and we hope to see you there!
